That's the wonderful thing about these devices. Even w/o any online access
you're carrying around a variety of entertainment options -- music, games &
apps, books, videos....

All you have to worry about is having enough battery power to get you
through. :-)

[apple-iphone] Firefox submits Home app to Apple for approval

7:17 AM By Livemail

Good luck with that
By David Neal<http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/flame_author/1720261/firefox-submits-home-app-apple-approval>

OPEN SOURCE* web browser outfit Mozilla has submitted its Home application
for Firefox to Apple in the hope that it will be accepted to the fruit
themed App Store.

Apple is notorious for its tight acceptance policies for its App Store, so
how far the Safari competitor will make it is anyone's guess.

We asked Mozilla how likely it thought it was that it would get accepted,
but apparently the only people allowed to comment on such things live in
California. We are still waiting for them to roll out of bed.

In the meantime, Mozilla
said<http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2010/06/30/firefox-home-submitted-to-apple-app-store/>that
the application, which is free, will let its web browser users carry
their desktop history and bookmarks over to Apple gadgets.

It added that this should allow for continuous browsing as users flit
between fixed and mobile devices.

Users will have to have already installed Firefox Sync to take advantages of
these cross-platform features. This, Mozilla explained, lets users save
content securely in the cloud.

If Home is accepted by Apple, and is downloaded by users, this will let
Iphone users open up tabs, for example, in either Firefox Home or Mobile
Safari as and when they need them.

Mozilla suggested a couple of likely scenarios in a blog post, "Are you on
the go all the time? Run to a meeting, or catch a cab to the airport without
thinking twice. Just pull out your iPhone and access the list of tabs you
just had open on your desktop," it said.
Short of a fire or equivalent emergency, we hardly ever run. But point
taken.

[apple-iphone] IPhone 4 lawsuits pop up: let the games begin!

7:12 AM By Livemail

Despite Apple's strong attempts to just sweep this issue under the rug, a
handful of class-action lawsuits
<http://www.tgdaily.com/mobility-brief/50462-iphone-4-lawsuits-pop-up-let-the-games-begin#>have
already been filed over the widely publicized iPhone
4
<http://www.tgdaily.com/mobility-brief/50462-iphone-4-lawsuits-pop-up-let-the-games-begin#>reception
issues.

There is a metal casing around the iPhone 4 that houses the device's
cellular and wireless antennas. Because that metal is exposed, it is easy
for users to grip the phone in such a way that it obstructs the signal and
cuts off or seriously reduces signal strength.
As the fastest-selling and arguably the most high-profile phone ever,
millions of people are scratching their heads over how Apple could have let
such a design flaw go through without any concern. That is the main point of
contention in the flurry of lawsuits.

One class-action lawsuit in Oakland, California already has 11 plaintiffs.
"The iPhone 4 manifests design and manufacturing defects that were known to
Defendants before it was released which were not disclosed to consumers,
namely, a connection problem caused by the iPhone 4's antenna configuration
that makes it difficult or impossible to maintain a connection to AT&T's
network."

The real catalyst that is pumping up these lawsuits, though, is the fact
that Apple has refused to consider this any sort of issue at all. The
lawsuit goes on to say, "Defendants have failed to provide customer support
to assist iPhone 4
customers<http://www.tgdaily.com/mobility-brief/50462-iphone-4-lawsuits-pop-up-let-the-games-begin#>regarding
this defect."

Plaintiffs are seeking monetary damages as well as an injunction that would
require Apple to "undertake an informational campaign" to let consumers know
about the iPhone 4's design defects.
